The Talk About: Christian Relationships

Posted by theinbetweentime

While much of NYC was out preparing for cupid, gathering last minute cards and candy, folks at the Advent Hope church gathered together for a thought provoking discussion on “Christian Dating”. The special February 12th Cafe Night program featured two diverse singles and couples panels. The audience had an opportunity to pose queries to groups respectively as the moderator randomly pulled each question anonymously. As the night continued, panelists opened up and shared their perspectives on dating, personal challenges faced in building solid bonds and ways they overcame difficult moments. Common stereotypes of who should approach who first and "Do’s and Don’ts'" were trumped by more important themes of self-respect, dignity, self esteem, and exploration. Audience members young and old provided wisdom of how to be the best person one can be and still find love and happiness. The two-hour long program was full of laughter, self-discovery and wonderful dialogue on an age old topic of dating.

Panelists cited examples of Christian couples like Ruth & Boaz to highlight the importance of timing and God’s guidance in discerning the right kind of relationships. Overall, singles uncovered their deeper values and stances on many issues including the “deal breaker list” and couples disclosed how they keep the love growing together without losing their individual identities. Despite the challenges of dating in today’s society, Friday’s CafĂ© Night examined the deeper underpinnings of positive outlook, balance and love as a pathway for fundamentally healthy and happy relationships.
