Can art really affect the world?

Dec's cafe night was an eclectic art exhibition, highlighted by vignettes and discussion.

Some of the most effective montages came from: Monkey biz- a video on how art changed the lives of Africa . Truly inspiring.

The Hallelujah chorus flash mob experience was a video that everyone needs to see:

This shows how the art of music combined with a new viral video craze is such an awesome way to spread the love of Jesus to an unsuspecting crowd!

"Where the He!! is Matt?" is a secular viral video which shows one man dancing all around the world. Matt ventures out to places like the Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Turkey, Mali, New Guinea and even Tonga! The message? Many Nations, different lives all united by one dance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNF_P281Uu4

Although many men can have different cultures and lifestyles, the arts plays a synonymous and integral part everyones lives. The only other thing that can have this strong hold mass effect? The Love of Jesus Christ.

Cafe nighters left AH on Dec. 3rd with a feeling of peace and unity. As they walked around veering at exhibitions and pieces, there was an over all feeling of well being in the limitless possibilities of our ministry.

Are you interested in using art to change the world? Do you believe that art can inspire, motivate and affect policies? We at Advent Hope Cafe are seeking artists to show their work for this year's art night on December 3rd, 2010.

There are two very exciting projects we are engaging in.

The 1st is a sketchbook project that starts Nov 6TH, 2010 and ends Jan 11TH,2011. It is a touring sketchbook that will tour with hundreds of other sketchbooks throughout the nation and then join the collection of Brooklyn Art Library.

The 2nd is an exhibition that explores the theme

“Art: Can it really change the world?”

which seeks to explore how art shapes social policies and affects people emotionally among other things.

We hope this will be a venue to present Christian artists and make an impact on the world.

An in depth look at issues of religious liberty around the world.

Our government compromises civil liberties in the supposed interests of fighting terrorism and crime. Other countries have made laws as well, either for the same reasons or simply because a religion that hold the majority suffers from tunnel vision and demands others to adhere to their ways.
Our objective is to bring awareness on religious persecution around the globe, to discuss our rights to religious freedom and how it has affected or will soon affect the U.S and how we can slow down the process. Please bring your opinions and friends.

Again CN's Spoken Logos was an awesome success! Where do I begin... I'm going to attempt to make you feel like you were there; in 500 words or less;

There was a thread of intimacy...Ms. Linda opened the show with a short poem. She was quickly followed

by Rick Hernandez who wants to "Let Jesus into his life".

As usual, on a few occasions, Tony delighted us with his prose asking us to question our intimacy with God...using our every sense.

Cleo read "Our deepest fear" by Marianne Williamson. GREAT POEM! Check it out.

Again Maria traveled with her trusty guitar, singing "Tonight", giving us a sense that we are @ in an intimate cafe in NYC ;-).

Al, dropped by to bless us with his lyrical mastery; "Changeling" & "Welcome home" (congrats on the birth of ur new son Noah)...

Brianna Munn came @ us with a self composed poem called "She stood still" inspired by Steinbach's book *sidebar* the fashionista in me LOVED the shoes almost as much as I love the poem.

Gi, a new comer, beautifully sang the Psalms en Espanol!! "Israel, no dormirá!"

The singing didn't stop there! Darren Bowen AKA Debo (by Tony)...humbly whispered a lovely song asking us "how could we say no to Jesus?"

EJ performed the famous "Dont Quit" poem...brought me back to my college days.
Andrea & Herme sang from the SDA hymnal with "Softly & tenderly". Talk bout taking it back!!!!! Which inspired the return of Rick Hernandez w/ a work in progress chronically his return.

The heavyweight, Tarrel, came to the stage without his piano to sing "gratitude"...thank you.
Eddie, under the spotlight, blessed us through testimony about being 1 class short, life & the debut of some original music..."i will surrender"

Omar slowly closed the evening, a presentaion of "None but Jesus" from Hill Song; and beautiful Melissa ended it all with an original poem bringing our "Struggle" with intimacy full circle. Asking the LORD to help us be the Christians he calls us to be! AMEN
Great job to the CN crew...Tony you are the true Master of Ceremonies...DJ Dwight on the 1s & 2s!! & props to the kitchen coming through again with the tasty appetizers!! *snap snap snap* another great CN @ AH!!! For more pics and Highlights check out our Facebook page!

Sorry for the late update, but none the less... CN delivers again!

Whats that? You want the play by play? Suuuure! :-)

I entered a dimly lit room...a single spotlight on the stage. I grabbed my very tasty cheese quesadilla and Asian cookies....mmmmm (da bomb! -I know, but there are no other words to do it justice). I grabbed a seat up front with my memo pad and my camera...

I sat next to a nice new couple Terell and Ariella...However Terell failed to mention that he was the gospel version of the singing sensation Maxwell... OMG! He sang an original song that deserved a slow clap into a standing ovation.

Next up...Elroy... and as usual he takes on spiritual Dogma, in a lyrical battle, excellently. As far as I'm concerned he could have dropped the Mic on the stage and walked off! But alas he didn't. *shoulder shrug*

Simone, came from Grand Concourse SDA Church, and presented her version of SDA hymns in lyric...*snap snap snap*

We heard an oh so familiar "FOOTPRINTS" in a dramatic new way. Where do we find such talent!?

the DJ Brings us the best of old and new school gospel and Christian Contemporary music.

And so very sweet Maria touched us with her guitar and song. I couldn't catch it all but it told of Gods goodness through the tails of a breeze and a tree.

Last but not least...our very own TONY did his thing on mic as both a poet and our EMCEE! *get it?*

All in all... a very blessed way to open Sabbath's doors. I cant wait to do it all again soon.

ONLY BAD THING.... My Camera broke and I lost ALL the great pics!!!! The Devil is a liar! If anyone has any please forward them to me asap. Thanks in advance.

Now remember next AHCN will be the last of the season! So get ready....

Get those fingers together, its that time again. Spoken logos is back. Poets put those pens to paper and get your creative juices flowing. Share your testimonies, tales and transformations with us at next month's CN.

Yet again, CN will be on the 2nd friday...but that is because on the 1st friday we will be supporting A Weekend in the Garden: Reflections on Jesus' Death and Resurrection

Use that time to pray and reflect...but make sure you write down those thoughts the death of JC is the purpose of our Christianity and let Spoken Logos be your witness!

While much of NYC was out preparing for cupid, gathering last minute cards and candy, folks at the Advent Hope church gathered together for a thought provoking discussion on “Christian Dating”. The special February 12th Cafe Night program featured two diverse singles and couples panels. The audience had an opportunity to pose queries to groups respectively as the moderator randomly pulled each question anonymously. As the night continued, panelists opened up and shared their perspectives on dating, personal challenges faced in building solid bonds and ways they overcame difficult moments. Common stereotypes of who should approach who first and "Do’s and Don’ts'" were trumped by more important themes of self-respect, dignity, self esteem, and exploration. Audience members young and old provided wisdom of how to be the best person one can be and still find love and happiness. The two-hour long program was full of laughter, self-discovery and wonderful dialogue on an age old topic of dating.

Panelists cited examples of Christian couples like Ruth & Boaz to highlight the importance of timing and God’s guidance in discerning the right kind of relationships. Overall, singles uncovered their deeper values and stances on many issues including the “deal breaker list” and couples disclosed how they keep the love growing together without losing their individual identities. Despite the challenges of dating in today’s society, Friday’s Café Night examined the deeper underpinnings of positive outlook, balance and love as a pathway for fundamentally healthy and happy relationships.

Valentine's Day fast approaches.

As men look to find some last minute cards, flower shops empty out and many stand in cold lines on awkward dates, you can find AH singles at our next Cafe Night! Yup thats right, hot young Christian singles will gather on a wintry Friday night to discuss the ups, downs, do's and dont's of Christian dating. I've been there...and I can tell you...THIS IS GONNA BE GOOD!

Now the CN crew asks one thing of you. Feel free to comment on this post with questions, or concerns about; "Why do men...? Why do women...? And what would Jesus do?" You can post anonymously here if that makes you feel more comfortable in dealing with the hard questions. And I'm sure we all have those.

Dwight (with the help of Suzette) has conjured up an awesome program where we can talk candidly, chat honestly.....speak easy.

So January's Cafe night entitled "In the Spot" was awesome!

It was a dramatic series, which asked us all... "are we haters?" The Program was thought provoking allowing us to look at ourselves as Christians, and whether we are often victims of a negative self centered personality.

If you weren't there, YOU MISSED OUT! But dont worry I'll do my best to give you the cliff version.

It was a dimly lit room,

the cider was flowing the popcorn popping,

as a young man walks into a buzzing Cafe night.

He sits alone. He knows no one...

when the characters begin to whisper

(even though everyone including the poor young man could hear them)...

"He looks weird. He spooks me out..." You get the picture

So then he starts feeling self conscious (even though he should be God Conscious)

and decides to leave.

here in is our problem...

The Audience decided that the CN fictional characters were haters!

"Include him, be a christian... ignore what you've heard...

and you be the bigger person" were the basic sentiments given.

Here comes a Nice young woman to the rescue! Its Vanessa

She changes the game by breaking the ice and inviting the young man to a Ski trip.

The Lesson? Each One Reach One.

This aint your momma's personal ministry!

Awesome right? Well this is just one of the well thought out and controversial skits we experienced at Cafe night last Friday. As usual, service with a smile...

Bruschetta was yummy,

and the cider was great! I was siked to be there. I brought the hubby along...it was a great time had by all!

Cant wait to see what the CN crew have in store for us Next month! ;-) Till then...Meet someone new!

Its a new year, a new look on life,

a resolution to simply live right...

Leaving the past behind in 2009,

Its that time again. Cafe Night comes to you with the 1st event of the New Year...... when the Martinelli's loses its fizz, when you've gotten your 1st Kiss of the year & when your done with the celebrations; we here at Advent hope will be waiting to celebrate with you. And as usual we WONT disappoint!

This Month we are taking it to the stage with drama! I don't know about you, but I am excited to see what these performers have to offer. The details are being kept on the *hush*....consider it a late Christmas Gift.

The Cafe night Crew is asking that if you come out to support make sure to hit us up with any pics. We are always looking for the great ways we can show others how great of an event this is, from your perspective! There are also the occasional comment cards floating around the event.
